Scamadviser helps over 3 million consumers every month to discover if a website is legitimate or a possible scam. It analyzes more than 1 million new domains every month and shares online fraud data with more than 50 partners from law enforcement, tax agencies, brand protection organizations, and consumer authorities.
Scamadviser’s Maltego integration helps law enforcement, tax agencies, brand protection organizations, and consumer authorities to better identify possible scam networks. Each domain is given Scamadviser’s unique Trust Score, helping you determine the reliability of a website. You can also use Scamadviser’s Maltego integration to filter domains on several criteria like Trust Score, Popularity, Country where the service is hosted, Tags and Keywords and much, much more.
The Scamadviser Transform for Maltego allows users to retrieve the following information based on each domain name:
- Trust Score: Rates any domain based on more than 40 datapoints with a trust score from 1 (very, very likely a scam) to 100 (very likely legit).
- Block Search Engines: Check whether the domain blocks search engines. A large percentage of sites search on Scamadviser cannot be found via search engines.
- Consumer Reviews: The average number of stars and total number of reviews found on external review sites such as Google Shopping.
- Trust Rules: Explains why a domain has been given a certain rating.
- Redirected Domains: A list of domains linking to the domain being investigated.
- Meta Data: Such as the title, description and keywords used.
- IP Data: The IP address on which the domain is hosted, related ISP, hosting country and number of domain names on the server which are considered suspicious versus the total number of domain names.
- Tags & Keywords: Narrow your search by looking up keywords.

ScamAdviser helps consumers make their online shopping decisions by rating websites with the ScamAdviser Trust Score. The algorithm of ScamAdviser utilizes more than 40 data sources. From the IP address of the webserver, the availability of contact details on the website, the age of the URL, ratings on review sites and much much more.
2. What are Active Scans and Passive Checks?
The Scamadviser data is provided in two ways:
- Passive Checks: Only returns the data of domains already analyzed by Scamadviser in the last 30 days.
- Active Scans: Returns data for all requested domains. Domains not yet analyzed (or with data older than 30 days) will be automatically retrieved.

The Scamadviser Transform for Maltego allows users to retrieve Trust Score, Block Search Engines, Consumer Reviews, Trust Rules, Redirected Domains, Meta Data, Tags & Keywords, and IP Data.

All Maltego editions get a taste of Scamadviser data without any API key requirement. Please see Access section for more details.
With Scamadviser Transforms, Maltego CE and Pro users can perform domain annotation, extract key words, extracts tags, and retrieve html keywords, network information, redirecting domains, and trust rules.
Via the Enterprise trial, additionally to the queries mentioned above, users can search for keywords, tags, whois information, hosting company, countries, and domains.

7. Are there any other requirements to access Scamadviser data in Maltego?
For complete access to Scamadviser data, you need:
- A valid commercial license edition (Maltego One, Classic or XL) and,
- Maltego Scamadviser Data Subscription
Furthermore, to use Maltego data subscriptions, you must first agree to the Maltego Technologies License Agreement, Maltego Technologies Data Integration Terms & Conditions, as well as data provider Terms of Use. Each data subscription purchase is subject to a Know Your Customer (KYC) vetting process according to the respective terms of use for the data in question. Due to the often-sensitive nature of data, access is generally reserved for vetted organizations with legitimate use cases commonly associated with organizations. Thus, after placing an order request in the web-shop or via our sales team, customers need to undergo a KYC vetting process before the purchase can be completed and they can make use of the data subscription.
