Assessing Violent Demonstrations with Maltego

As part of Maltego’s NGO support program, the team collaborated with ZDF’s investigative journalists to examine Germany’s “Gen Z regelt” protests from 31 October, 00:00 CET, to 1 November, 01:00 CET. This brief brings together online monitoring, police reports, and press coverage to assess whether online calls for violence predicted where unrest occurred.

Mass protests generate thousands of posts per hour, but only a small share call for violence. During monitoring around Germany’s student protests on 31 October 2026, one Telegram group accounted for 1,717 of 2,549 posts. Of 66 keyword matches, only 15 were classified as calls for violence.

This investigation brief shows how investigators Maltego alongside police reports and press coverage to test whether online calls for violence predicted where unrest occurred.
